Mentor FAQs
-
Mentors in our program typically have solid experience in a specific functional area (e.g. marketing, finance, strategy), or in a specific industry (e.g. education, e-commerce, food). Many of them have been founders themselves at some point, or have held senior leadership roles.
Aside from your professional experience, you should be open to build up a mentoring relationship with entrepreneurs and founders to help them grow and make better decisions. -
Once we have assigned you to work with one of our program companies as a mentor, you will join their path and work closely with them throughout the 4-month program period.
Your engagement with a program company starts with your participation in our initial Deep Dive meeting, where we will discuss the strategic objectives for the company, and a path to execution throughout the program.
From there, you will start to work with a company 1:1 through virtual meetings on the objectives set out in the initial meeting.
Every four weeks, you will also join forces with the Lead Coach and other mentors assigned to the company in a Program Advisory Board meeting to review progress and realign on next steps. When working with a company as a mentor, we don’t expect you to do things for them, but rather ask the right questions, point towards concepts or frameworks that might help, offer candid and constructive feedback, and provide guidance based on your own experience.
-
As a mentor, you would need to commit at least three hours a month per company during the 4-month program period, with five hours in the first month.
Of course you can spend more time on mentoring if you wish to do so, e.g. by offering more frequent or longer 1:1 working sessions with entrepreneurs, or by taking on more than a single company at a time.
If you are not currently assigned to a company, e.g. after a program ends, you are not expected to spend any time as a mentor. If your personal situation changes, you can always let us know so we can pause your mentorship and not reassign you to a subsequent program company.
-
The vast majority of our mentors chose to provide mentorship to companies free of charge during our program. As a publicly funded not-for-profit organization, we are grateful for all mentors who volunteer to help the next generation of entrepreneurs to be successful.
-
Yes, if you chose to continue to work with a company after the end of the 4-month program period, you are welcome to do so. Your relationship after the program will be directly with the company.
In a case where you have received any compensation for your mentorship from GB Accelerator during the program period, and you enter into a paid consulting agreement with a company that is or has been participating in a GB Accelerator program, you will be required to pay a commission to GB Accelerator on your consulting revenue from that company.
